Most Frequently Asked Questions
How
does the investment team interact to come to a security selection
decision?
A critical
element to the success of the portfolio’s research process is the
firm’s team of seasoned investment professionals who hold a proven
track record in screening, researching, and stock-picking. The
investment team is comprised of two portfolio managers/analysts
and six research analysts. The research analysts cover specific
sectors and are responsible for presenting stock ideas to the investment
team and act as a stock sponsor. Once a stock sponsor presents
an idea to the investment team, the team evaluates the company,
but the portfolio manager makes the final decision to buy the stock.
Stocks are thoroughly reviewed in a team setting, but the portfolio
manager decides if the stock is timely and should be included in
the portfolio. Stock sponsors are accountable for covering the
stocks and communicating all material issues to the portfolio manager
for as long as the stock is owned, while the portfolio manager provides
tactics on positioning and size. Three strategy meetings are held
each week and devoted to increasing communication among the investment
team. During the strategy meetings, the investment team discusses
new stock ideas, reviews buy/sell disciplines, and monitors portfolio
sector weightings.
